Biography

"On January 15, 1529 Pierre Eqyuem married Antoinette de Louppes (Lopez) born in 1514, daughter of Pierre de Louppes (Pedro Lopez) of Toulouse and niece, or perhaps goddaughter, of Antoine de Louppes de Villeneuve (Villanueva) a Spanish merchant who had gotten rich by trading woad. The Louppes family may have descended from Jewish converts to Christianity who had settled in London, Antwerp, Toulouse and Bordeaux. In 1527 an arbitrage between Antoine de Louppes and Martin de Castille mentions a delivery of 764 sacks of woad to the port of Antwerp, ordered by 'Pierre Loppes' merchant, residing in Antwerp. A little later on, we find Pierre de Louppes in Toulouse where he joined the capitoulat in 1542." etc [1][2]
1495: Birth of Pierre Eyquem, father of Michel. He became lord of Montaigne in 1519. [3]
1529: Pierre Eyquem, returned from the wars of Italy, marries Antoinette de Louppes, daughter of Pedro Lopez, of Toulouse. [3]
1554 Pierre Eyquem, mayor of Bordeaux. [3]
1568 Death of Pierre, son Michel becomes owner and lord of Montaigne. [3]

Hi Isabelle,

I'm not sure if she ever used the de Louppes de Villeneuve version of the name. According the info it was her uncle who always signed his name this way, it's not mentioned she or her father did also ?

And the last source I added has more info about Michel and what name he preferred as well ;)
