Henry Clay was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1834, one of four sons born to Jeremiah and Louisa (Scott) Lord. He moved to Malden, Mass., with his family before 1850.[1]
When he was 26 years old, Henry enlisted to serve in the Civil War. He mustered in as a Private in Company C of the Massachusetts 13th Infantry on July 16, 1861. He was wounded in the hip[2] during the 2nd Battle of Bull Run in Virginia, and was discharged due to those injuries on November 26, 1862.[3]
After the war, he married Katherine Holland, daughter of Daniel and Mary Holland, in 1865. They lived in Malden, where they had 1 daughter.[4] Because of the wounds Henry received on the battlefield, physical work was difficult. He worked as a coal dealer (1880).[5]
Henry died in 1912, at the age of 77 years.[6] He is buried in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden with his wife and daughter.[7]
