I have many happy memories of “Auntie Nell” my Mum’s cousin. Mum + Nellie lived close together when I was a baby. My Dad worked with Jo. Nellie cared for me on lots of occasions. As a young girl we would visit Nellie and Jo and stay with them at Lake Rotoiti. Uncle Jo had tyre tubes for us to swim with in Lake Rotoiti. They were fun holidays – lots of fun things Nellie’s wonderful cooking and much laughter from the adults. Auntie Nell and her sister Nina made regular visits to our home in Auckland. It was not unknown for those 3 cousins to sit up all night talking and the house was filled with laughter. Great memories of happy times. A real treat for us every now and then when Jo sent up on the bus from Rotorua a smoked trout – caught and smoked by him. He sent a telegram saying the trout was on its way. We went into the city to meet the bus and then home for a yummy tea. by Val Goss Profile Manager
