Biography

Removed Casper as middle name.

Johan Casper Lorentz[1] was born in 1755 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, the son of unknown parents.
In 1771, when he was in his mid-teens, he migrated from Rotterdam to Pennsylvania.[2][3][4]
Casper was employed as a carpenter and on 19 November 1771 was counted in a census in Philadelphia.
He lived in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.[5]
In 1774, when he was still in his teens, he married Mary Reppert . She bore him eight known children, six sons and two daughters:
  1. John Lawrence
  2. Eva Rose Rosanna Lawrence
  3. John Heinrich Lorentz
  4. Jacob Lawrence
  5. Mary Polly Lawrence
  6. Christian Lawrence
  7. Jacob Lorentz
  8. George Lawrence.
On 15 February 1807, when he was in his early fifties, he died of unknown causes in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.[6] He was buried in the First Reformed Church Cemetery, in Lancaster.[7]

Bio: Casper sailed from Rotterdam to Philadelphia in 1771 on the ship Tyger. After indentured service of 2 years, 10 months to William Pennel of Middletown, Chester, Pennsylvania, he moved to Lancaster where he raised 2 sons, Jacob and John, with his wife Mary. The First Reformed Church of Lancaster sold part of its cemetery lands to build a courthouse. There was no record of removal for Casper or his wife, Mary, and [they] are likely still buried under the courthouse.
