Biography

Robert Emery Lorman was born December 6, 1871 either in Spry Bay or Popes Harbour, Halifax County, Nova Scotia.[1][2] Why the two different birth registrations? Spry Bay and Popes Harbour are close to each other and close to Tangier Robert's father, John Henry Lorman's birthplace. Did the family register Robert's birth in one place and the midwife, or doctor, or preacher register his birth in the other?

He appears with his family in the 1881 Census of Halifax, Nova Scotia.[3]

In the 1896 birth record of his daughter Lydia, he is listed as a Carpenter.[4] He is also listed as a Carpenter in the birth record of his second daughter Galdys.[5] Then in his son, Gerald Emory's, birth record his occupation is listed as farmer.[6]

The 1900 census has him and his family in Westford, Mass. His occupation is listed as Carpenter, he is renting the home his family lives in and he can read and write.[7]

He is still in Tyngsborough in the 1920 Census along with his family which includes his daughter Lydia and her three sons. this Census lists his occupation as a Machinist working in a Machine Shop.[8]

The obituary for his father, reprinted on John's page, says that John worked for a time on Robert's farm in Tyngsborough.[9]

He his family and his brother-in-law appear together in Tyngsborough, Masachusetts on the 1930 Census.[10]

He appears in the 1940 Census with his son Charles and his family. The record lists his middle initial as "I", but there may be an error. The "I" in his name has the same symbol as the "E" in his grandson Gerald E.'s name yet the transcriptionist wrote Gerald's "E" as "E".[11]
