"Edward Lothian was born in Govan in January 1824. He was the youngest of three children born to George and Margaret Lothian. In 1841 he was living with a family called Mason, in Clarence Street in Edinburgh. The census does not give an occupation, but William Mason, who was about the same age (15), was a banker’s apprentice. Edward later worked as an accountant with the Bank of Scotland. He never married, and in 1871 he was living alone with two servants: Margaret Sommerville, a widow of 58 and her daughter Anne, aged 23. He sold No 3 in 1878, and moved to Brae Lodge on the Glasgow Road. In 1881 he was described as a retired banker and again was living alone with two (different) servants. He died on 18 May 1881, aged 57."[1]
In 1863 he bought the plot from John Dick Lauder and built number 3 Dalrymple Crescent. He sold to Duncan Francis Stewart in 1878.
