Hi,

Margery Lott and William Copeland (died 1789 Chatham NC) are my 6th g grandparents. DNA and DYNA matching is rewriting the published trees for them.

Their son William, my 5th g grandfather died in 1759 in Pennsylvania so no son William was alive and named in William's 1789 will. William jr (wife Sarah Lindsy) was not the son of William who died 1789 but the son of William who died 1759 PA.

By my and my cousin's multiple DNA matches Margery and sister Nancy were the daughters of John Latta/Lotta and Mary Steen of Taughboyne, Donegal, Ireland. DNA matches to the Lotts of Edgecombe NC show those Lotts also to be descended from John Latta/Lotta of Donegal.

The Copelands and the Lott/Lattas were all Scots Irish who migrated from Ireland to Pennsylvania in the 1730s and then down to North Carolina.

There is no connection for either family to Virginia. The Chatham NC Copelands are group 1 in the Copeland YDNA project and the Virginia Copelands appear to be group 4 YDNA.

Happy to discuss!

Bill
