Notes

from: Julia Maria Zimmerman First of all, I think, the name is actually Frieda, not Elfrieda. The civil office should know exactly, but in her letters and all documents I have found, I found Frieda. These two names are similar, but each is a stand alone given name. (By the way, of different origine, Elfriede is an aglo-saxon name, Frieda is old german with the meaning "peace". Both names were popular around 1900, but Frieda was far more popular.)

As to the birth place, the Lotz family is rooted in the Westerwald ("Western forest"), then Rheinprovinz, Prussia. The branch were Frieda an Hermann come from is settled in Niederdreis. The biggest city in the area is Koblenz, on the Rhine. This town has nothing to do with Coblenz in Bautzen, Saxony (which is on the other side of Germany). Dierdorf is another town in the Westerwald.

On the family: Peter Lotz, b. 1830, d. 1896, and Anna Elisabethe Kottscheid, b. 1830, d.1901, had five children: Wilhelm Ludwig Sophia Katharina Simon

Ludwig is my ancestor, he had two sons, Heinrich and Hermann. Hermann is the father of my maternal grandfather, Erwin. Heinrich has issue still living in Niederdreis. I do no know anything about the other siblings, but there was one Peter Lotz, whose wife Ida was my grandfather's godmother. They could be Wilhelm's children.
