(Following text was given to me many years ago from who I can't remember) John and Mary bought a 7 acre section where the present Auckland Town Hall stand. The land was very swampy and a small stream used to run from it down around Queen Street. They lived there for several years but when the Kauri Gum fields opened up at Keri Keri they sold their land for 5 pounds and shifted up to Keri Keri. Three of the sisters married three Preston brothers while up in the gum fields.
Seperated in their later years. He moved to KeriKeri where he lived for several years until he died. Eldest son William James lived up that way too.
