Biography

Lucy Lough was born about 1838 in England, United Kingdom, daughter of Joseph Lough (1801–1875) and Mary Ann Welsh (1795–1871).

When Lucy's sister, Mary Dobson, and her children travelled to New Zealand to join their husband/father in 1851, they were accompanied by Alfred Dobson, Mary's brother-in-law. Lucy was to follow five years later, (arriving at Lyttelton in December, 1856 aboard the Egmont), expressly to marry Alfred.

Lucy (19) married Alfred Dobson (33) (born on March 9, 1824 in London, England; son of John Dobson and Elizabeth (Barker) Dobson) in 1858 in Sumner, New Zealand.
