Biography

John J. Love was born in 1844 in Indiana. Sometime between 1847-1849, the family moved to Wisconsin, where father William, mother Ruth, and siblings Wiley, Malinda, William, Rachael (b. Wisconsin), & Henry (b. Wisconsin) are listed in the 1850 US census[1] By 1860, the family had returned to Indiana and had settled in Centre Township, Wayne County.[2] About 1865, John married Sarah [?] "Sally" or "Sallie" Smith, daughter of Elihugh Smith and Elizabeth M Slone. They had their only child, Elma E. Love about 1866 and all three were living with the Jackson Alexandria family in 1870.[3]

By 1880, John and his small family had moved to west to Cedar Township, Sac County, Iowa, including John's niece Marilla Love, age 4.[4]

By 1900, they had continued west and were in their final home in Kay County, Oklahoma. [5] Their daughter was now listed as Elma E Baird, having married and divorced. Also living with them is Elma's daughter, Maud Baird, age 5. In 1910, it seems that Elma their daughter had moved out, while John's sister Emla (Emma), age 48 years, had moved in.[6] In 1920 John and Sally are listed together living at 218 S Elm Ave., with their daughter Elma again, this time as a 54 year old widow with the last name of Shannon.[7]

John died in 1925[8] and is buried next to his wife Sally, who proceeded him in death by two years.[9] They are buried in Newkirk Cemetery, Newkirk, Kay County, Oklahoma, USA, six miles south of the Kansas-Oklahoma line in the north central part of the state.

I don't think that John J Love b. 27 OCT 1824 and m. Sally S is the son of William Linsey Love. John J's age is consistently OLDER than John, son of William. This John J Love other the John Loves born in or living in Indiana around this time need to have a side-by-side tracing through the census records to determine who belongs to which family.

After searching the US census records for all the John Loves born in Indiana between 1840 and 1850, I'm more convinced that John J Love. AND Mr. Bain added a note about the information on John's death certificate. That citation should be added to the reference list, along with a way for others to view the source.
