Biography

APPIN (1930, May 9). South Coast Times and Wollongong Argus (NSW : 1900 - 1954), p. 7.http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article142609136 APPIN (Correspondent.) Ella W. Wilcox, in her pretty little poem, 'Journey's End,' writes; And the hearts that were brave in the morning,Are filled with repining and fears, As they pause at the City of Sorrow,,Or pass through the Valley of Tears. These words might well describe the feelings of the Loveday family of 'Ousedale,' Appin, on Saturday,26 April. On the 25th a few friends had been invited to spend the evening. Music and laughter filled the air, and all were bright and happy. At about three o'clock next morning Miss Hill, who had been sharing Miss Emma Loveday's room, was awakened by a strange sound. To her horror she discovered her companion in a state of semiconsciousness. Dr. Mawson, of Campbelltown, was quickly summoned, and at once gave no hope of recovery. At about 6 p.m. the end came very quietly. Miss Loveday was the eldest daughter of the late William Loveday, and Mrs. Loveday, of 'Ousedale,' Appin. She was born at Sherbrooke, nearly 49 years ago. At the age of 14 years Miss Loveday had an attack of rheumatic fever, subsequent attacks had greatly weakened her heart. Of a sweet, gentle, cheerful disposition, the deceased lady's refined courtesy was best summed up in the 'term 'ladylike'. She was of a very sociable disposition, and keenly enjoyed a joke. Her chief hobbies were music, reading, and gardening. The funeral took place at St. Mark's, Rev. J. F. Rofe reading the solemn service. One of Miss Lovedays favourite hymn was sung, 'Rock of Ages,' with Miss Nicol, an old friend of the family, at the organ.
