Nathaniel Lovelace was born in Halifax, Virginia in June of 1827. His parents John Lovelace and Jane Daniel were married in Halifax in 1822, and were living there in 1830. They moved to Pittsylvania prior to the 1840 census. He married Elizabeth White on 4 Jan 1866 in Pittsylvania, Virginia.
In 1850 in Pittsylvania, John and Jane had six children listed:

Nathaniel was living in the Laurel Grove area of southern Pittsylvania in 1861 when he enlisted in Company C of the 38th Virginia Infantry. His brother Thomas, in the Danville area, enlisted in Company E of the 38th.
Nathaniel married likely just after the war, and in 1870 in the Dan River area of Pittsylvania, Virginia is noted with wife and two children: Nathaniel Lovelace M 43 Virginia Elizabeth H Lovelace F 37 Virginia
The 1880 record would show the same foursome, and parents Nathaniel and Elizabeth were still living in the Dan River as of 1910.
