Biography

Frank Lowden is Notable.

Frank Orren Lowden was born in Sunrise, Minnesota on January 26, 1861, the son of Lorenzo O. Lowden and Nancy Breg.^[1][2]

He moved to Iowa with his parents and later to Illinois to attend law school in Chicago.

• Served in the National Guard.

• Served in Congress representing the State of Illinois in the 59th, 60th, and 61st Congresses.

• Served as Governor of Illinois, from 1917-1921 at the time Prohibition was enacted by the United States Federal Government.

Frank Lowden married Florence Pullman, daughter of George Mortimer Pullman who founded Pullman Palace Sleeper Car Company in 1867. (The Florence Hotel in Pullman, Illinois was named for Florence Pullman by her father.) Frank and Florence had at least the following children:

• George Mortimer Pullman Lowden, b. 20 Jan 1897; d. 2 Dec 1970 Orange County, California^[3]
• Florence Lowden, b. 4 May 1898 Chicago, Illinois^[4]; m. Dr. C. Phillip Miller; d. 27 Apr 1988^[5]
• Harriet Elizabeth Lowden, b. 7 Aug 1900; m. Alfred F. Madlener; d. 28 May 1987^[6]
• Frances Orren Lowden, b. 16 Dec 1903^[7] or 16 Dec 1904^[8]

Frank died on 20 March 1943 at the El Conquistor Hotel in Tuscon, Pima, Arizona, of carcinoma of the rectum. He was widowed.^[1] He is buried at the Graceland Cemetery, Chicago, Cook, Illinois.^[2]
