Biography

John was born in 1875. He was the son of George Lowe and Jane Watt. He was a boat mater and carter. He married Emmaline Mary Mitson in 1899 and they had three children. He passed away in 1911 from a fractured skull after accidentally falling backwards out of a cart.

The Mercury 19 Jan 1911: On Jan 18,1911 from injuries accidentally received. John Alex. the dearly beloved husband of Emily Lowe and youngest beloved son of Jane and the late George Lowe, aged 35 years. Fatal Fall - Shortly after 11 o'clock yesterday morning a carter named John Alex Lowe who was in charge of a vehicle at the corner of Argyle and Liverpool Sts., fell backwards out of the cart landing heavily on the back of his head on the road. he was conveyed to hospital by Sergeant Ward in an unconscious condition and was subsequently found to be suffering from a fractured skull. An operation was performed and the unfortunate man rallied but grew worse again and died shortly before 4 o'clock. An inquest will be held this afternoon. Verdict of Accidental death returned at Inquest.
