Mary Harrison Lowery was born at Tokomairiro in South Otago, New Zealand on 13th August 1904, the third surviving daughter of Charles Lowery and his wife Janet Stark Parlane. Although Mary's thought to be the fifth child born to her parents, family members believe Mary had an unregistered stillborn twin, and it's not known which child was born first.
Mary never married. She died at Hastings in the Hawkes Bay region of the North Island on 18th October 1987 at the age of 83. [1] A few days later she was buried at the Mangaroa Cemetery in the Hastings area of the North Island of New Zealand with her elder sister Margaret. [2] Their headstone reads:
"Lowery … in loving memory of Margaret Grace, died 25th November 1977, aged 77 years; also her sister Mary Harrison, died 18th October 1987, aged 83 years. 'Until the day breaks'."
