Nellie Lowrey was the daughter of George Lowrey, a white man, and his Cherokee wife, Nannie. She was born about 1785 in the Cherokee Nation (East). [1] She married Edmond Fawling, also Cherokee, about 1806. They were the parents of eight children, Edward, Edmond, Joseph, Rim, Ellis, Elizabeth, James, and Susie. Nellie apparently died before 1834 since her son was described as an "orphan" in school records. [2]
