James was born in the Cherokee Nation (Indian Territory) in 1850. He was the son of Anderson Lowery and Mary Nave, both Cherokee. He married Susan Vickery, also Cherokee, in 1874. [1] They were the parents of Rafael, Anderson, Eliza, [2] Mary, James, Minnie, Susie, [3] Elsie, Andrew, [4] Henry, and Bartow (died in infancy). [5] He passed away in 1905 and is buried at the Harnage Cemetery, Muskogee, OK. [6]
