I'm Steve Alan Lowrey. I was a teacher, for thirty years, the last 27 at Arab High in Arab Alabama. My retirement started in May of 2013.

I was born at Holy Name of Jesus Hospital May 2, 1954, it is now River View Hospital. I guess they didn't want to be associated with me, My first 13 years were spent at Pell City. My family moved to Blountsville at the of the school year , May 1967.

I graduated from J B Pennington High School May 1972, attended Snead State Junior College two years , and believe it or not I actually taught one Biology course for them several years later! After three years at Auburn University, I obtained my first degree, a B.S. in Agricultural Science, with a major in Animal & Dairy Science , March 1977. The end of my education, I mistakenly thought then.

My career began with six months of training with Gold Kist at the Farmers Mutual Exchange , Geraldine Alabama, my father's hometown. I rented my great grandfather's house from my second cousin's family and enjoyed living close to several cousins. my grand parents on my mother's side and an aunt and uncle, a very loving and loved family!

After my training , I worked at Farmers Mutual Exchange Stevenson Alabama, a dying store in a dying company. It wasn't fun, but I met some nice people. One of them was my future wife's uncle, Bill Edmonds ,a great guy and principle at the local high school. It went belly up and I moved to Farmers Mutual Exchange Russellville Alabama.

I worked two years at Russellville, a great town with lots of great people. I was dating my future wife, Kay Newman, who lived in my old hometown, Blountsville. My family still lived there and it was my real home. Gold Kist, the parent group for most of the Farmers Mutual Exchange was dying and the Russellville Store broke off from them. I was tired of that business and didn't see much future with them and decided it was time for a career change and to try to persuade a wonderful woman to marry me. So, by Russellville hello Birmingham and UAB.

After a year and a half I was married to Kay and got my second degree, a B S in Secondary Education with majors in Biology and Chemistry. We lived in Birmingham, in a rat hole apartment for two months and then moved back to Blountsville.

I finished the B S in December 1982 and worked for a great man, Mr. Ottis Shedd , for his building supply. I learned a lot about building and then got my first teaching job at Locust Fork High. After two years teaching science there for two years ,while attending graduate school at UAB, I got my masters degree. A year later, politics got me and I was canned there and got a job at Arab High School.

Arab needed someone that could teach Physics, they hired me and back to UAB I went. I got a certificate in General Science and then an EDS in Physics and Chemistry. I taught 27 years there , had lots of great students but a few stinkers too! Then came retirement in May of 2013.

My son , Adam married a great woman BriAnna Hall in 2014. Now I have three wonderfull grand children, Ava Taylor, Ana Kathleen, and John Walker. I farm a little and raise Angus cattle. Now that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

May God bless and keep you as He has done me. I'm proof that all things are possible through Him and His Son , Jesus Christ!
