Biography

"Bid" was the youngest son of William and Jane (Scott) Lowrie. He was three years old when his mother, Jane (Scott) Lowrie died. His brother Thomas was nine. His father married his neighbour's daughter, Ann Mulnyx and later six more half-siblings were born.

April 28, 1880, Bid married Anna (Annie) Jane White who was a sister to his brother Thomas' wife Jennet. They started their married life together in Middleton (Courtland) near Annie's parents: John and Margaret (Crawford) White (Whyte), in farming as his father and grandfather had done.

Together they had five children: Clarence (1881), Jenny (1882), Ruby Elizabeth(1889), Annie Ruth (1893) and Rose Margurette (1901). Clarence, Jennie, and Ruby Elizabeth were born in Middleton. The 1891 census showed the family as still living in Norfolk North, but by Annie Ruth's birth in 1893 they were living in Dereham Township, Oxford County, Ontario. Rose Margurette was also born there.

The 1901 census revealed that Annie and Bid were neighbours to: William and Annie (Bid's father and step-mother), James (Bid's half brother) and Hannah, Thomas (Bid's brother) and Jennet, Anna Jane (Bid's half sister) and Thomas Curtis in Dereham Township, Oxford County, Ontario near Tillsonburg.

Bid and Annie celebrated their 50th anniversary with family and friends on April 28, 1930. They had reached 52 years together when Bid died in November 18, 1932 from complications associated with diabetes at the age of 74. He is buried with Annie in Tillsonburg Cemetery section D.
