Biography

Clara Jane Lowrie was born June 12, 1879. She was the oldest of ten children for Thomas and Jennet Lowrie. Clara's name first appeared in the 1881 Canada Census.^[1] The next census where she appeared with her nine brothers and sisters was 1911.^[2]

Clara married Charles William White, a widower, on March 6, 1912 In Tillsonburg, Oxford, Ontario. The marriage also included Charlie's daughter, Nina, from his first wife, Eva.^[3]

Clara and Charlie had their only daughter Irene Jeanette in Tillsonburg on September 19, 1913. The 1921 Census revealed the family consisted of Charles (42), Clara (41), Nina (18), and Irene (7). At that time they were living on Simcoe Street in Tillsonburg and Charles was listed as a farmer.

Charles passed away when he was 61 years old, October 4, 1940. Clara still had Irene living at home but she also had a farm to deal with. According to the 1945 Census it looked like step-daughter Nina and her husband, Archie may have stepped in to run the farm because according to the Canada Voter's List they were living at RR#3 Tillsonburg, the address shown for Charles, Clara and Irene on the 1940 Canada Voter's List. In the 1945 Canada Voter's List, Clara was living on Rolph Street in Tillsonburg. ^[4]

The next available document was the 1953 Canada Voter's List. At that time Nina, Archie and Clara were all living on Bidwell Street with Clara living in the upstairs apartment and Nina and Archie on the main floor.

Clara passed away in Tillsonburg, June 22, 1972. She is buried in Section H of the Tillsonburg Cemetery next to Charles.^[5]
