James was born on August 8, 1894 at Fredericton, New Brunswick. He was a son of James Lowrie and Susan Blanche (Kay) Lowrie.[1][2][3]
He was lumberman before World War I, and enlisted in the war effort as a member of the Canadian Forestry Corps. He signed his attestation on September 23, 1914, very soon after the initial outbreak of hostilities.[2] The Canadian Forestry Corps was an invention of the British government in 1914, who concluded that large quantities of timber would be required for use in the war effort. Initially, they had planned to harvest wood in Canada and have it shipped overseas, but due to lack of space on merchant ships, it was instead decided to send the corps overseas to harvest timber in the forests of Europe.[4]
He married Olive Edna Nevers, daughter of George Nevers and Olive (Lawson) Nevers, on Jan 11, 1921 at Woodstock, New Brunswick. At the time, James is listed as a labourer.[5]
James passed away Oct 26, 1960 and is interred at the Woodstock Rural Cemetery in Woodstock, New Brunswick.[6]
