Biography

John was born in 1758. His place of birth was Frederick, Virginia on Find A Grave and in the pension letter explanation below.

He first married Mary Railsback. (mentioned without name in Will) Daughter of Johann Henrich Rehlsbach (1734–1815) who married her mother Anna Maria Euteneuer (1739-1786) on 13 Sep 1757 in Evangelisch, Roedgen, Westfalen, Prussia. John and Mary's bond of marriage was on 24 Aug 1786 in Rowan, North Carolina.[1][2]

John passed away Feb 1849 in Hamilton Co. IL. He was interred in the Preston Cemetery, Dahlgren, Hamilton County, Illinois, USA[3]

Franklin Co Tenn. Revolutionary War Pensions:

John LOWRY S31215 West Tenn. $22.90/year, issued 13 May 1833. 30 Aug., 1833 Franklin County, John LOWERY aged 74 states he was born October 1758 in Frederick County, Va. He has a record of his age taken from his father's Bible but does not now know where that Bible is. He entered the service as a resident of Rowan County, N.C. under Col. Hugh BREVARD and Capt. John SASS (SOSS?), Sept. 1779 and was discharged March 1780. He enlisted again under Capt. William PENNY and encloses his discharge dated 9 Nov. 1781. After the war he he lived in South Carolina and removed to Kentucky before settling in Franklin County, Tenn. John HICKERSON, John CAMDEN, and Parson Henry HUNT of his neighborhood will testify to his credibility. Henry HUNT, John HICKERSON, and Solomon HOGE testify to LOWRY's reputation as a veteran. 28 Jan. 1839 White County Ill pensioner John LOWRY has removed to Hamilton County Ill., because his children live in Illinois. Light W. LOWERY testifies he knows John LOWRY to be a pensioner. 1934 Inquiry of Laura B. KENDALL of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. 1936 Inquiry of John B. LOWRY of Elizabeth City. North Carolina.

June 14, 1848 Will of John Lowry, Sr.[4] I, John Lowry, Senior of the County of Hamilton, and the State of Illinois, being very aged and weak in body but of sound mind and disposing memory do in the first place commit my soul to the care of God who gave it, dispose of my timporal [sic] affects in the Following manner. First--In the first place, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Elizabeth Lowry (after my just debts and funeral expenses are paid) all and every part of my personal estate to her own disposal and benefit so that no sale of property need be by any but herself or by her concent [sic] as agent for her-- Secondly--I bequeath to son, Light Lowry, my rifle gun and wagon. And tools I wish they be equally divided among my five sons, Pearson A. Lowry, John Lowry, David Lowry, Light W. Lowry and Young S. Lowry. And after the death of my said wife, Elizabeth Lowry, all the remaining property to be sold to the best advantage and the money equally divided amongest [sic] her children -- as for my children by my first wife, I have portioned them off when they became of age and left me. -- My daughter, Francis Taylor, I wish my wife do for her as she sees cause to do. CHARLES LOWRY SR. was born Bef. 1741. Said to be from the North of Ireland, and died Aft. 1812 in Franklin co. Georgia. He married UNKNOWN.

Court Records: November 10 1775. First appears in Rowan Co. court documents pertaining to guardianship of Sarah Peterson. Again on February 6, 1777 pertaining to Elizabeth and Sarah Patterson (sic).
Property: January 7 1775, Received a grant on Coddle Creek. Again on February 25, 1778 Entry No. 505, State Grant No. 34-North Carolina granted Charles Lowrey 250 acres on the headwaters of Houston's Branch of coddle Creek in rowan co. (Deed Book 9. p. 97)
Residence: April 6 1786, Sold 200 acres on Fullelow Creek in rowan (now Iredell) co. (Deed Book 9, [. 609) to John Baker of Meeklenburg co for 50 pounds. This may have been the original grant from 1775 (see Property)

Lowry-4418 and Lowery-644 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicate,

Lowry is LNAB as per earliest document that being the Will. HIs year of birth is the older one as je was married twice. children are the same, place of birth is also under scrutiny.
