Biography

James was the son of Matthew Lowry and Elizabeth Goss

He married Nancy Wood (Born in Halifax County, Alabama), the daughter of Thomas Wood and Mary Hope of Fluvanna Co., Halifax, Virginia on 24 Dec 1795. Nancy was born about 1777 in Halifax, Virginia and died after 1854 in Kentucky.

  5. John Lowry,
  6. William Lowry,
  7. Polly Lowry,
  8. Malissa Lowry, married David Leach, their child was Mary Francis. Mary married David Leach.

James Lowry & Nancy lived in Caldwell County, KY for many years, but in later life, moved to Hopkins County and lived on the farm next to their daughter Malissa and her family.

James was found in the 1850 Census.[1]The household was enumerated as follows:

James Loury M 79 Virginia
Nancy Loury F 73 Virginia
Charlotte Loury F 50 Virginia

James was a Slave Owner as per the Slave Schedule he owned 3 Men, ages 24, 18, and 15. (Image attached)[2]

James was interred in the Old Fredonia Cemetery, Fredonia, Caldwell County, Kentucky, USA[3]

Research Notes

This is info from a direct descendent from Matthew Lowry Matthew married Elizabeth Goss. Matthew was born 1725 and died 20 Oct 1794 in Goochland Co. Virginia. Elizabeth Goss was born 25 Oct 1738 and died after Oct 1794 in Goochland County, Va. They had a son named Matthew Lowry Jr. who was born 27 Nov 1764 in Albemarle, Virginia and married Elizabeth Wood, she was the daughter of Thomas Wood. They also had a son named James, born 12 Nov. 1771 in Virginia and he married Nancy Wood, also a daughter of Thomas Wood. she was born abbout 1777 in Halifax, Virginia and died after 1854 in Kentucky.
