Civil War Veteran - Private - Company D, 47th GA Infantry (Screven Guards ). Enlisted March 4,1862 in Sylvania GA. March & April 1862 mustered sick. July & August 1862 mustered on leave.Nov & Dec 1862 mustered sick.June 30, 1864 on hospital muster roll at First GA Hospital, Charleston South Carolina. Might be a brother or close relative to Samuel Howell Lowther - 7-30-1838 - 8-8-1900, buried in Woodlawn Cem, Eastman,Dodge, GA.As he joined up the same day their military records read almost identical.
