Biography

John was born in Aug 1825 in North Carolina.[1] He is presumed to be the son of Jacob and Polly (Driskel) Loy. He was listed in the household of his mother in the 1850 census.[2] On Feb 13, 1858, John married Nancy Little in Bond county, Illinois.[3] The couple were listed in the 1860 census living in Bond county, Illinois.[4] On Feb 19, 1865, John enlisted and mustered into the Union Army in Springfield, Sangamon, Illinois.[5] He mustered out on May 23, 1865 in Springfield. Sometime prior to the 1870, the family moved to Drywood Township, Bourbon, Kansas where they appear in the 1870 census.[6] In 1874, John and his family are said to have moved to Oregon by covered wagon.[7] In 1880, the family was listed living in the Slate Creek Precinct in Josephine county, Oregon.[8] In 1900 the family was listed living in Grants Pass Precinct, Josephine, Oregon.[1] John died on Oct 1, 1906 in Grants Pass.[9] He was buried in Granite Hill Cemetery in Grants Pass.[7]
