The Welsh Loyd surname comes from the well-known Welsh personal name Lloyd. This name is originally derived from the word "llwyd," which means "grey." Early Origins of the Loyd family The surname Loyd was first found in Montgomeryshire (Welsh: Sir Drefaldwyn), located in mid-Eastern Wales, one of thirteen historic counties, and anciently the medieval kingdom of Powys Wenwynwyn, where they held a family seat from very ancient times. Hello Gerald, I have been researching my mother's family from Wales. My great grandfather was David Lloyd Davies 1865-1903, married Sept. 28, 1889, to my great grandmother, Alice Elizabeth Jones. Their parents, I believe, were Hannah Loyd abt.1830-1905 and Davie Davies 1824-1872, married abt.1851. Hannah's parents may have been John Lloyd 1785-1859 and Jane. Do you know if these descendants of David Lloyd? I would appreciate any light that you can shine on my search. Thank you, Ann Marie Family files Ann Marie Prybylski (mail@prystein.com)
