Alice Lucas was christened on 10 May 1835 at Farnworth Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire. She was the daughter of John and Ellen Lucas. Her father's occupation was recorded as farmer, and the family's address as Eccleston.

By June 6th 1841, the family were living in Eccleston in Prescot, Lancashire. John was an agricultural labourer.

By March 30th 1851, they were living in Bottoms Gate, Kersley near Bolton, Lancashire. John was a carter.
