Biography

Charles Daniel Lucas was born February 16, 1747, in Prince George's county, Maryland, the son of Thomas Lucas and Anne (King) Lucas. His birth is listed in the The Swan-Hughes Bible with the children of Thomas and Anne (Keene) Lucas: [1]

Charles Lucas married Susannah ? b: 1750. In the 1776 Frederick Co, MD census their children are listed as Nancy b: 1772, Jermina b: 1773, Richard b: 1774, John (no date), and Mary b: 1776. Charles Lucas died in 1784. This is the wrong Charles Lucas for this page.

The above information is not for the Charles Lucas described on this page. Charles Lucas was born bef 1755 in Bladen/Robeson Co, NC.

There is a unique DNA for this family not seen in other Lucas families (see FTDNA Lucas Project). In the U.S. it is found primarily in the northern Chesapeake Bay area just north of Philadelphia where the Welsh Tract was. There is a small pocket in MA. There is one site in NYC and an additional site in western VA and eastern KY. The number of sites where this DNA is found is very few. DNA studies to date of the Lucas family have clearly identified a kinship among the John Lucas family of Wayne County, NC and the Lewis Lucas family of Sampson County, NC, and the Charles Lucas family of Robeson County, NC).

Around 1768, Charles married Dorcas (?nee) and in 1806, in Virginia, Charles married Esther Barnett. [2]

Charles Lucas of VA who married Ester Barnett on 9 Jul 1806 is a different Charles Lucas than the person on this page. This Charles was born abt 1847 in Sinking Creek, Lunenburg (Pittsylvania) Co, VA and died before 1787 in Greensville, VA. Their children were Nathaniel, Edmund, and Charles, born between 1807 and 1811.

Charles Lucas and Charles, Jr are both found on the United States Census of 1800, living in close proximity in Marboro District, South Carolina. [3] [4] There is an image of the census record on the Familysearchorg websit

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Charles by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Charles:

If it has been decided that this Charles Lucas is different from the child of Thomas and Anne Lucas, we should remove them as his parents.

Does someone have a picture of the Swan-Hughes bible where it says his name? Thanks!

I am not sure if the Charles Lucas from Virginia is the same one from South Carolina.
