Arthur Henry Lucas was born about 1853, though some records suggest this should be 1871. Perhaps a second Arthur Lucas has mistakenly been mixed with this persons profile. There is no mention of his marriage to Louise Nisbett and subsequent children in his Wikipedia, Australian Dictionary of Biography or Family Search records.
Arthur Lucas was born in Stratford-on-Avon, Warwickshire, the third son of the [[Lucas-14921|Rev. Samuel Lucas], a Wesleyan minister, and his wife Elizabeth (née Broadhead).
An Arthur Lucas died about 1946 aged 75 years old. [1] This would be the one who married Louise Nisbett and had 3 further children.
Arthur Henry Shakespeare Lucas was an English-born schoolmaster, scientist and publisher who lived in Australia for over fifty years, and became the most renowned writer on Algae after the world renowned Irish Botanist William Henry Harvey.
He married Charlotte Christmas on 29 July 1882 at the parish church of St Cuthbert, Bedfordshire. She died in 1919 and they had four daughters. Arthur Lucas developed pneumonia after collecting seaweed from rockpools at Warrnambool, Victoria in May 1936, and during the journey to his home collapsed on the train at Albury, New South Wales. He was taken to a private hospital and died on 10 June 1936 and then cremated.
