Biography
In 1859, in Calhoun City, Mississippi, Robert married Mary Elizabeth (some say Sarah) Bennett. Children of Robert and Mary Elizabeth include:
James Lucas, born 1861/62 (from 1870 Census) in Mississippi
Mary Elizabeth Lucas, born October 3, 1868, in Mississippi, died June 21, 1950, in Smith county, Texas, married name Green [1]
Susannah “Susie” Lucas, born February 27, 1872, in Mississippi, died May 3, 1960, in Dumas, Moore county, Texas, married name Walding [2]
Robert and Sarah are found on the United States Census of 1870, living in Mississippi with their three children. The recorder gives Robert’s estimated year of birth as 1833/ 34 and place of birth as Alabama. The recorder also transposes the years of birth for Sarah and Mary, making Sarah the elder child, which is incorrect according to their death records. [3]
Robert and Sarah are found on the census of 1900, living in Justice Precint 4, in Anderson, Texas. The recorder gives Robert’s birthdate as September 1835, and birthplace as Alabama, with his father’s birthplace as South Carolina (which is correct for John Mikell Lucas). [4]
Robert died September 29, 1905, in Anderson county, Texas and is buried in the Olive Branch cemetery, on Brushy Creek. [5]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Robert by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Robert:
This Robert E. Lucas is not the son of John M. Lucas (1785-1865) and Sarah A. ____ (1793-1870), who raised all of their children in Screven County, Georgia. And according to their family Bible, their son Robert E. Lucas was born 24 Oct 1832.
