Biography

Davis Kaewood Lucas was born January 16, 1873, in Christianburg, Montgomery county, Virginia, a son of Charles Davis Lucas and Nancy Barbara (Charlton) Lucas. (Note: his father was 73 years of age at the time of his birth and his mother was the third wife of his father.) On February 13, 1894, in Montgomery county, Virginia, Davis K. Lucas married Josephine Deforrest, daughter of Theodore and Nancy Deforrest. ^[1]

Davis K Lucas and Josephine are found on the United States census of 1900, with three children. His father died in 1885, at the age of 85, and his 67 year old mother, Nancy, is living in the household with Davis and his wife. Also living with them is Catherine J. Lucas, his cousin, (or his mother's cousin?) who is 74 years of age. ^[2] Catherine and Nancy are still living with Davis and his family in 1910, as is his 40 year old sister, Annie Lucas. ^[3] His mother is 75 and Catherine is 84. Catherine died in 1913, at the age of 86 ^[4] and his mother, Nancy (Charlton) Lucas died in 1920, at the age of 86.

Davis K Lucas and Josephine are found on the United States census of 1920, with three sons and a daughter ^[5] and in 1930, living in Auburn, Montgomery county, Virginia, with two children and a nephew, James Wilber. ^[6] Davis died June 30, 1930, in Montgomery county, Virginia and is buried in the Lucas Cemetery, in Riner, Montgomery county, VA. ^[7]
