Elisha Higgens Lucas was born July 18, 1801 in Greene County, Pennsylvania, the second child of Samuel Lucas and Eleanor Rannels. He married Susannah Ault in 1825[1] and they had 12 children.
Elisha and his family were members of the Old Bethel Methodist Church, which is about two miles from Centerville, Ohio. At one time his name appears as one of the Trustees. Elisha and Susannah are found on the United States Census of 1840, 1850, and 1860, living in Smith Township, Belmont County, Ohio.[2][3][4] Elisha passed away December 9, 1864, at the age of 63 years and is buried in the Old Bethel Cemetery, also known as the Lucas Cemetery, in Smith Township, Belmont County, Ohio.[5]
