Biography

Orrin Luce lived in Appalachia, in New York. See Appalachia Project.

Orrin, or O.C. as he was known in social circles, was born 7 Jun 1825.[1][2] He was the son of William and [[Colwell-878|Diantha (Colwell) Luce.[1]

On 1 Oct 1848 he married Mary Smith.[1] The couple would have three children during their 25 years of marriage.[1][3]

When Mary passed away in Jan 1874 it would take him only 11 months to marry, as his second wife, Mary Jane Stockwell. She was a widow with two children of her own, and they married on 9 Dec 1874.[1]

They combined Orrin's three children with her two, and added another daughter when they adopted Mary Jane's niece, Nettie Andrews. She had become an orphan when her mother, Mary Jane's sister, Anna (Stockwell) Andrews died in 1875.[4]

O.C. supported his family as a carpenter.[4] When it came time to retire Orrin and Mary Jane lived with her son Alpha in Buffalo, who was running a boarding house at that time.[5]

O.C. passed away 12 Sep 1906,[1] quite possibly in Buffalo where they had been living. He is buried in the Canaseraga Cemetery, where he rejoined his first wife in her resting spot.[2] His second wife is buried in the same cemetery, but with her first husband.
