Edward Luck was the son of brewer Peter Luck of Louth, Lincolnshire, and Eliza Ibbetson, who died young, as did some of his siblings.
In the 1861 census, his father had passed away and he was Head of house and a brewer employing three men. Later that year he married Jane Ellen Simons.
When his brother Henry married in 1862, his employ was announced in the newspaper as "Luck Brothers, brewers".
According present day local historians, Louth was known for having 52 pubs, one for each week of the year, purportedly the most per capita in England. "There was a big brewery and hop merchant in what is now Queen St. car park . It belonged to the Luck family . I think the Pig and Whistle was originally known as Luck's Tap, and then The Pig and Whistle. In the 1861 census ,George and Mary Meanwell ran the pub , but it was owned by the Luck family. Closed down c. 1909.
In 1871, he lived in Louth with wife Jane E Luck and was a Sheriff's Officer. They had a 13 year old servant Jane Rhoades. It appears his brother Henry Luck and his growing family took over the brewery.
In 1881, they lived in Great Grimbsy, Caistor, Lincolnshire, and he was a Custom House Agent. They do not appear to have had children.
He died there in 1889, aged 50, and is interred in Cleethorpes Cemetery.
