1904Oct 15 Newcastle Herald:HAMILTON. LUCKHAM-GILBERT WEDDING. The Methodist Church on Wednesday afternoon was filled with a large assemblage, when Mr. F. Luckham, son of Mr. John Luckham, of Devonport, England, was married to Alice, second daughter of Mr. George Gilbert, of Carrington House, Hamilton. The service was performed by Rev. S. Thompson, assisted by Rev. E. Fox. The church choir, in which the bride had taken part from her girlhood, sang "The Voice that Breathed o'er Eden" as the bridal party entered the building. The girl friends of the bride had decorated the front of the rostrum, and had erected an artistic arch of ferns and lilies, pendant from which was a beautiful floral bell and horseshoes of roses, beneath which the bridal group stood whilst the ceremony was performed. The bride, who was given away by her father, was attired in ivory white silk, trimmed with chiffon, silk lace, and insertion, and wore an embroidered veil and coronet of orange blossoms, carrying a white shower bouquet, and wearing a gold heart pendent, the gift of the bride-groom. She was attended by four bridesmaids, the Misses Lily and Gerty Gilbert (sisters of the bride), and Miss Lily Benbow niece of the bridegroom, who wore cream voile, trimmed with satin ribbon, and lace, and Miss Effie Gilbert, who wore white Indian linen, trimmed with lace and insertion. All carried shower bouquets of pink roses, and wore gold brooches, gifts from the bridegroom. Mr. E. Goddard of Sydney, and Mr. T. Coaldrake, acted as best man and groomsman respectively. After the ceremony the party repaired to the School Hall adjoining the church, the "Wedding March" being played by Mr. T. Kinder, jun. In a prettily furnished miniature drawing-room off the platform, Mr. and Mrs. Luckham received the congratulations of the numerous visitors who had been invited to the wedding breakfast, prepared by the parents of the bride, who, with the other members of the family, entertained the guests. The Rev. G. Thompson presided, and proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom, to which the bridegroom responded. The parents of the bride was proposed by the Rev. E. Fox, and responded to by her father. The toast of the bridesmaids was humorously responded to by Mr. T. Coaldrake, after which a number of vocal and musical items were finely rendered by several of the visitors. Mr. G. Williams presided at the piano. Mr. and Mrs. Luckham left for Gosford, where they are spending their honeymoon. The custom of rice-throwing was dispensed with on their leaving the church; the officiating clergyman having pre-emptorily forbade the practice within the church and its precincts. He considered it a desecration, and one that he would firmly put done whilst holding his position as minister of the church; but at the station and at Adamstown the newly-wedded couple were subjected to unstinted rice showers. The bride's travelling dress was of navy blue voile and silk trimmings, with hat to match. The presents were numerous.
