"Joan Luddington was the daughter of Henry and Joan (Kirkby) Luddington and a granddaughter of Thomas and Joan (Redness) Luddington of Luddington, Yorkshire.... Henry Luddington of Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, father of Joan and Anne Luddington, citizen and grocer of London, was buried at the Monestery School of St. Thomas of Acon, London, 1531. His arms were Paly of 6 argent and gules, on a chief gules a lion passant gardant argent. He was the first husband of Joan Kirkby who was buried at St. Mary Aldermary 10 September 1576. Her second husband was sir William Laxton, citizen and grocer, Lord May or of London 1544 and the founder of Oundle School. He died 29 June 1556 and was buried in a fair tomb in the chancel of St. Mary Aldermary."
