Funeral services for Mike Ludwig were held at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Faribault on Friday morning June 12, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Father Eugene Pacholl as celebrant of the Requiem Mass. The Rev. Father Nicholas Gillen was also present in the sanctuary. Music for the service was provided by the St. Lawrence choir. Altar boys were grandsons of Mr. Ludwig and included Duane, Douglas, David and Mike Ludwig and Robert Hole with Loren Ludwig serving as lecturer. Pallbearers were also grandsons of Mr. Ludwig and included Terry and Gary Ludwig both of Rochester, Dennis Ludwig and Thomas Schmitz of Faribault, John Jacoby of Mankato and William Schmitz of Rosemount. Members of the St. Lawrence Society recited the rosary at the funeral home and attended the services as a group. Interment was made in the family lot in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault. Relatives and friends attending the services from away were from: Dundas, Erskine, St. Paul, Rochester, Northfield, Hastings, Farmington, Rosemount, Cannon Falls, Mankato, Henderson, Shakopee, Marystown, New Market, Heidelberg, Lonsdale, Montgomery and Nerstrand. Michael Sebastian Ludwig, the son of Henry and Susan Tix Ludwig was born t his parents farm home in Bridgewater Township in Rice county on August 31, 1888. He attended the rural schools in that vicinity and grew to young manhood there. He worked at farming near Madison, Minn., for a number of years returning then to Rice county. On June 1, 1915 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Wagner at St. Nicholas Church in New Market. They made their home in Bridgewater Township where Mr. Ludwig farmed the Family homestead for many years. He retired from farming in 1957 at which time, he and Mrs. Ludwig moved into Faribault and have since made their home at 13 NW 11th St. Mr. Ludwig passed away at the Rice County District One Hospital in Faribault on Tuesday morning June 9, following an extended illness. He is survived by his widow, Mary, by three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Susan) Schmitz of Dundas, Mrs. Kenneth (Agnes) Hole of Erskine, Mrs. Leo (Elizabeth) Poels of St. Paul; by five sons Anthony of Faribault, Henry of Northfield, Francis of Rochester, Bernard and James both of Dundas; by 34 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; by four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Mai of St. Paul, Mrs. Julius Simon of Hastings, Mrs. Tony Schiller of Farmington and Mrs. Matt Stoeffel of Cannon Falls; by a number of nieces, nephews and by other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father in 1945, by his mother in 1946, by two brothers John and Nicholas Ludwig and by a sister Mrs. Joseph Schiller. Mr. Ludwig was a life-long member of the St. Lawrence Church in Faribault and a member of the St. Lawrence Society. He had served as clerk of the District 29 School board in Forest Township for 50 years.
