Biography

Hyman Ludwig was born at Mollif, Russia, on 10 June 1861. His mother was also born in the same place. Note that Mollif is not shown on Google Maps. He married Celia [unknown] and their son Harry (Hyman?) was born in Russia in 1884. The 1910 Census confuses Hyman and his son Harry, for example giving his age as 24 but his number of years married as 28 (suggesting that Hyman Sn. married Celia in Russia in about 1882). In 1910, Hyman Ludwig senior owned his home, with a mortgage. He worked as a presser in a tailor shop.

In the 1930 Census, Hyman had moved from Chicago's Ward 10 to Ward 29, where he owned a home on Grenshaw St worth $35,000. He had not attended school and could not read or write, but was able to speak English. Hyman Ludwig was a naturalized US Citizen, and was retired He died aged 69 in Chicago, Cook County, on 27 Nov 1930, and was buried at Proviso, Cook, Illinois.

TYhe Illinois Deaths and Stillbirths Index says that Hyman Ludwig's father's name was Hyman.
