DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Robert or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree: It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Robert:

Hello,

I am a DNA verified direct descendant of Nehemiah Smith (b. about 1605 in England, d. 1686 in Norwich, Ct.) and am searching for any information about his roots in England. I would like to send this message request to any and all family members in the hopes that someone has a clue to help unlock this mystery.

Hi Robert,

I'd like to invite you to join in our "Weekend Chat", a popular G2G post where many of the members visit and share in a variety of topics.

New people say "Hello" and introduce themselves, Leaders and Mentors give tips and answer questions, and regulars share updates on their latest projects and victories... anything they wish to chat about. I most enjoy stories of famous or nefarious ancestors.

We'd love to hear from you, stop in when you're able!

Greetings!

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Robert,

I noticed you uploaded a GEDCOM. Here's a link to a great step-by-step of the process including screenshots that you might find helpful.

If you have any brick walls, collaboration might help bust through. Because WikiTree has only one profile for each person, the further back you go in your ancestry, the more likely cousins will find you and help out. ANY Wiki Genealogist can edit "Open" profiles (over 200 years old = open). There's also a brickwall tag in the G2G forum: brickwall

The help pages give lots of information about the process, best to start with 'Before you import a GEDCOM'.

Hi Robert,

You are now a member of the WikiTree Community. Please note we are trying to build one Collaborative Tree which means one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add any Profiles to WikiTree.

If you need any help getting started check out the help section from the menu, top right, or head over to the G2G forum and take a minute to introduce yourself in the Tree House, you might also want to check out the introductory WikiTree video that a member created.

Our Mentor Team are a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to help you with specific problems if you have any.

Welcome!

Volunteer Button Robert. You clicked on the volunteer button indicating that you would like to collaborate and add family information. If that’s correct please leave another comment here on your profile to indicate your willingness to help build the “Tree”, and one of the Greeters will be happy to add you as a member of WikiTree.

If you just want to explore and search for relatives or family information you can do that as a guest without volunteering.

To help you with your search, check out the “Find” button. Clicking the “Matches for family”or the “Surnames” buttons may show you the way to some family info or connections.

In the “Help” area you can post questions in the G2G forum. We have a lot of people who are willing to help. Just ask. Good Luck.

We are all cousins, and finding those connections is fascinating to me. My uncle first got me interested in genealogy when he drafted my grandmother's tree on a giant sheet of blueprint paper. I've spent 15 years trying to fill out the missing branches, and I am eager to begin integrating DNA into the search.
