Biography

Anne Marie Fedderke was born on 22 Aug 1769 in Nienhagen, Amt Neustadt am Rübenberge, Hannover, the daughter of Johann Lüder Fedderke [1] and Marie Elisabeth Fortmüller.

On 22 Feb 1722 she married Cord Heinrich Kolze, then a soldier, at their parish church in Gilten. [2]

Anne Marie died on 15 Sep 1835 in Nienhagen and was buried three days later. [3]

Cord Heinrich Kolze and Anne Marie Fedderke had three children who lived to adulthood. In 1846, 1847, and 1848 all three immigrated to Cook County, Illinois. The two older sons, Friedrich and Johann Heinrich, were in their 40s, married and each had several children. They both became farmers in Leyden Township, near where O'Hare Airport is today. Diedrich, the youngest, settled in Chicago where he married and had children and was a cabinet maker. Virtually everyone in Illinois with the Kolze surname between the 1840s and 1940s was a descendant of one of these three sons

Research Notes

  • The Cook County Album of Genealogy and Biography refers to Anna Maria as "Anna Marie Leuhrs". This book was published in Chicago, Illinois in 1900, 65 years after she died, after all her children and many of her grandchildren had died, so it's not surprising the last name was incorrect. Many other factual errors can be found in the book.
  • The following historical locations are now merged into Gilten, Heidekreis, Niedersachsen, Deutschland (or Gilten, Heidekreis, Lower Saxony, Germany in English) (1)
    • Norddrebber, Amt Neustadt am Rübenberge, Hannover
    • Nienhagen, Amt Neustadt am Rübenberge, Hannover
    • Gilten, Amt Neustadt am Rübenberge, Hannover
    • Some sources will use Soltau-Fallingbostel instead of Heidekreis, but it was renamed to Heidekreis on 1 Aug 2011 (2)
