Seferino was born in 1897 to Manuel Antonio Lujan and Candelaria Montoya.[1] In 1919, he married María Antonia Bustos and they had three sons: José Carlos (Charlie), José Edwardo (Eddie), and José Diego who died as an infant. In about 1921 they moved to Colorado.[2] In 1932 Antonita died of complications from the flu, leaving him a widower with two young boys. They were still living in Colorado in 1940.[3]
At the age of 45 he enlisted in the army during World War II.[4] He was working as a fireman in a cement mill at the time so they were probably happy to have his experience.[3]
After the war he returned to Colorado. There is no evidence that he ever remarried. He died in Colorado in 1951 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.[5][6]
