Biography

Witness Cumberland Mercury and Rural Gazette, 10 Aug 1878 James Luke was a witness in the case in which the plaintiff claimed £10 damages resulting from alleged illegal impoundage charges. Some lucerne may have been eaten, but no other damage was done. James Luke gave evidence about the lack of fencing around both the defendant's property and his lucerne patch. The plaintiff was awarded £6, 16s costs, and court costs against the defendant. [Both parties were represented by solicitors]
