Biography

Married 1st Jerusha Stevens and 2nd Rebecca Crossley. Two children were born by the first marriage and many by the second marriage. Names and dates have yet to be obtained. Lived in Uxbridge, Whitby, Tecumseh and finally Scott.

On Sept. 17, 1805, Jeremiah Lundy, a yeoman of Whitchurch, made a land petition. He was 25 years old and the son of Enos Lundy. He was recommended for 200 acres. [1]

During the War of 1812, Jeremiah Lundy served as a private in 1812 and 1813 and as a corporal in 1814 in the 1st York Militia. Sometime between July 1 and Oct. 24, 1812, he served as a private in Captain Thomas Selby’s Flank Company. This company was at the capture of Fort Detroit and the Battle of Queenston Heights. The 1st York Militia Rolls are incomplete and payrolls for the 1812 flank companies have not been found. There is therefore no proof in the rolls that Jeremiah was at either of these engagements. [2]

From Sept. 25 to Oct. 3, 1813, he deserted as a private from Capt. Richard Richardson’s Co. [3]

From July 8 to 27, 1814, he served in Capt. Jeremiah Travis’ Co. [4]

On Apr. 25, 1820, Jeremiah Lundy, a farmer of Whitchurch Twp. and a former private in Capt. Selby’s Flank Co. of the 1st York Militia, received the south half of Lot 18, Con. 8, Tecumseth Twp. Online land records could be checked to see if he settled on this land. [5]

In the 1851 census for Scott, Ontario County, Canada West, Jeremiah is recorded with wife Rebecca and sons Jeremiah (25) and John (22). The next entries are James Brown and wife Mary (age 20) with 1 yr old son John. Mary is a daughter of Jeremiah and Rebecca. Following the Browns is Samuel Lundy (age 33). Given the age gap between Samuel and Jeremiah Jr., it is possible that Samuel is a son of Jeremiah Sr. and his first wife, Jerusha Stevens.[6]

Lived to the age of 76 years old. (Armstrong 150)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jeremiah by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jeremiah:

I have added information to this profile as a project manager with the wikitree Upper Canada War of 1812 Project and linked it to the project pages and militia record sources. I am not related to this family.

Please email me, if you have questions about this war and other veterans and their families.

Elias & Eleizar Lundy served in the same regiment. They may have been the same man. Do you want a copy of the land grant register page with Jeremiah's grant?
