Biography

Ann Lunn is given as the wife of William Ballard in the Herald's Visitation of Nottingham in 1614 in which it states "Anne d. of Lunn of Welley in Com. Nottingham." Welley does not exist in Nottinghamshire and is generally taken to be a transcription error of Welby which is a tiny village about 3 miles east of Grantham.

There are no civil or church records to substantiate the marriage of William Ballard to Ann Lunn and indeed the parish register for St Mary, Southwell shows that William Ballard married Agnes Robinson 23rd November 1563. It is not possible to demonstrate that Agnes was still living at the time that their children were baptised (only William is named as a parent in the Parish Register as was usual at that time) but it is possible to demonstrate that an "Ann Ballard" is recorded as a god parent throughout that period.

One possible explanation is that Ann & Agnes are the same person and indeed Agnes was enunciated as "Annis" and sometimes recorded as Ann. when abbreviated. Perhaps Agnes was a widow and her maiden name was Lunn? What is certain from available evidence, however, is that William married Agnes Robinson.

Ann was born in 1560. Ann Lunn ... She passed away in 1605. [1]

Lunn-281 and Lunn-17 appear to represent the same person because: Lunn-17 and Lunn-281 are the same person except that the unsubstantiated elements reflecting a supposed migration to America are not present as there is no supporting primary (or even secondary) evidence.
