Biography

Michael was born in 1783. He was the son of Nimrod Lunsford and Elizabeth Wyatt. He passed away in 1860. [1]

Michael Lunsford and Elizabeth Black, Lunsford moved from Burke County, NC to Cherokee County, NC in the mid 1840's and settled on the head of Owl Creek. Family tradition says that they were both married before they married each other, and evidence points to a young Nimrod Lunsford, B. 1815, being the son of Michael, but we haven't been able to prove this as yet.

Four of these sons, Thomas, John, Michael Jr., and David, joined the Confederate Army on the same day. Thomas was discharged shortly after he went in, possibly due to the death of his wife Jemima. David and Michael Jr., were both captured and sent to Union prison camps, and later exchanged. All four came back home safely.

Michael Lunsford died in the 1860's and is either buried on Owl Creek, or Hanging Dog Baptist Church, in an unmarked grave. Elizabeth went to Union County, Georgia to live with daughter Elizabeth Lunsford, Seabolt. She died there 2 October 1890, and is buried at Zion Baptist Church, Suches, Georgia.
