Biography

Harry was born about 1785, in Thame, Oxfordshire (estimated from cenuses of 1851 and 1861). His parents were Sackville Bale Lupton and Jane Theodosia Style, who married on 2 August 1780 at Thame, Oxfordshire. ^[1]

Harry's marriage date to Elizabeth Reynolds is an estimate, estimated as occuring two years before the birth of their daughter Jane, baptised on 28 January 1812 at Thame, Oxfordshire.

A son Sackville Lupton, was baptised, at Thame, on 4 January 1814. Harry's occupation is described as surgeon, the same profession that his stepson, Henry Wells Reynolds, went on to pursue.

A daughter Elizabeth Lupton, was baptised, at Thame, on 26 October 1815.

A son Harry Lupton was born in 1820 (no baptismal record traced at this point). Harry appears in the 1841 census below and died in 1853, buried in Thame, aged 33 years and described as Harry Lupton (Junior).

A son Arthur Roger Thomas Lupton, was baptised, at Thame, on 4 October 1823.

The 1841 census records Harry as resident in High Street, Thame. With Harry (surgeon) are his wife Elizabeth, son Sackville, daughter Elizabeth, son Harry and daughter Jane Chard, along with Jane's daughter Elizabeth.

Harry's wife died in 1848.

The 1851 census shows Harry aged 66, a widower, a medical practitioner and born in Thame, as resident in the High Street, New Thame (Thame), Oxfordshire. Resident with him at the census are his daughter Jane Chard, a widow aged 39 described as "gentlewoman" and born in Thame, and her daughter Elizabeth Chard aged 18, unmarried, gentlewoman and born in Reading, Berkshire. Also resident is a visitor and three servants.

At the 1861 census Harry is 76 and described as surgeon. Harry is still resident in the High Street, Thame, Oxfordshire. Resident with him at the census are his daughter Jane Chard aged 49, widow, his daughter Elizabeth Lupton, aged 45 and unmarried, and a great grand-daughter Bessie Handley, aged 4 and born in Thame. Also resident are a nurse and a servant.

Harry Lupton "late of Thame in the County of Oxford, surgeon" died on 18 June 1861 at Thame. The will with three codicils was proved on 3 August 1861 "by oath of the Reverend Amos Hayton of Thame .... one of the executors". There is a hand written note on the National Probate Record stating "double probate passed at Oxford April 1872".

Harry was buried at Thame on 24 June 1861.
