Biography

Sackville was born in 1854 in Thame, Oxfordshire. He is the scond of two sons of Sackville Lupton and Ellen Seymour. He was baptised on 31 March 1854. In the baptism register his father was noted to be a surgeon. His birth was registered at Thame in the second quarter of 1854.

Sackville's father died in 1856, aged 43, when Sackville was only about two years old.

At the 1861 census Sackville's mother (36) is still at the family home in High Street, Thame. Only Sackville (7) is at with her at the census. They have one resident servant. Sackville's older brother, Harry (8), is a boarder at Christ Hospital School, Hertford, at this census.

In May 1861 Sackville's mother remarried, marrying the Revd. John Wilkinson Edwards (49), widower. They married in Thame. Sackville's step-father was the rector of Baddiley, Cheshire, and had at least seven children from his earlier marriage.

At the 1871 census Sackville (17) is a boarder at the Royal Medical Benevolent College, Epsom, Surrey.

The 1881 census records Sackville (26) residing as a lodger at 7 Lower Park Terrace, Trevethin, Pontypool, Monmouthshire, Wales. He has not followed his father into the medical profession - here he is noted to be a brewer master, employing three men and one boy. He is unmarried. Also lodging alongside him is his half-brother, Montague Stone Edwards (aged 16), working as a brewer's clerk.

Sackville Lupton "of Charlton Road South, Manchester, died on 23 July 1900" (National Probate Calendar). Administration was granted to his widowed mother, Ellen Edwards. His death was registered at Chorlton, Manchester. He was aged 46.
