Newton C. Luttrell, son of Vincent Luttrell and Sarah Elizabeth Benson, was born about 1825 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. He passed away after 1888 in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (became Marshall County, Oklahoma when Oklahoma became a state in 1907) and is buried in Cumberland Cemetery, near Madill, Marshall County, Oklahoma.
The gravestones which supposedly belong to Newton and wife Juliana are so damaged and weathered, they are not legible. They are located near the graves of Jake Pruitt Luttrell and his wife Clara B. Watterson.[1]
According to family sources Juliana and Newton had eighteen sons and two daughters, many of whom died young. In 1910 Juliana said only five were still living. Only nine sons and two daughters have been identified. Of the nine sons, for three I have only dates, no documentation: Archie Luttrell 1870-1882; Homer Luttrell b 1871; Lee Luttrell b 1873. Any additional information about the children of Newton and Juliana would be welcome.
Census
Newton and Juliana have not been located on the 1850 or 1880 census records. In 1850 they would have been in Lincoln County, Tennessee. The couple left Tennessee about 1872 with other Luttrell family members for Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. In 1880 they were probably in Indian Territory in what would become Oklahoma.
