Martha was born about 1841 in South Carolina. Her parents were also born in South Carolina[1]. She was the sister-in-law of President Abraham Lincoln and the wife of a Confederate surgeon known by the Union Army during the war for his cruelty to Union prisoners of war.
She married Dr. George Rogers Clark Todd, the brother of President Lincoln's wife, Mary. He was known for his cruelty during the Civil War when he served as a Confederate surgeon at the prisoner of war camps, so she may have endured much as his wife.
She passed away in 1889 and is buried at Quaker Cemetery in Camden, South Carolina.
